Hosted by Samuel L. Jackson, the tone was set early on for a fun, musical, full of shtick night. The video montages of great sports moments of the year were all set to phenomenal music from Lenny Kravitz to Britney Spears. The athletes seemed to have an awesome time and the celebrities in attendance seemed awe struck by the sports crowd.

The Arthur Ashe award for Courage given to Nelson Mandela and the Jimmy V award for Perseverance give to Coach Don Myer were really touching and inspirational moments. Even if you aren't a sports fan, the effect that sports can have on bringing all people together and giving people strength were highlighted by their stories and added a very emotional element to the evening's otherwise lighthearted festivities.
