Project Runway Recap (Spoiler Alert)

Friday, October 30, 2009

By Claire

It happened again. Christopher was in the bottom 3 again and didn't get eliminated. It's quite the strange phenomenon. It was a fascinating challenge. I have to say I didn't expect Althea to win and was shocked by Irina's accusations on the runway. Wild stuff.

Special "Friday Night" Guest at the Blackhawks Game Tonight

Friday, October 30, 2009

By Claire

Evanston, IL native Zach Gilford, who plays quarterback Matt Saracen, on Friday Night Lights was a special guest at the Chicago Blackhawks game tonight. He participated in a few shots on goal during the intermission. He was interviewed between each shot and as adorable as he is on the show he is even more endearing in reality. Very cool.

Foreigner in Concert

Friday, October 30, 2009

By Bender

Just saw Foreigner last night. I usually don't go to see bands where the lead singer is no longer with the group (no more Lou Gramm as lead vocalist) and the only original member appeared to be Mick Jones. Nonetheless, it was a really fun show. They played their greatest hits and the current lead singer who has been with them for over 5 years has an excellent voice and is very similar in sound to Lou Gramm. It was fun hearing their classic songs like Cold As Ice, Urgent, Feels Like The First Time, and Juke Box Hero (with Whole Lotta Love thrown in for good measure). It wasn't about experimenting or re-arranging the tunes, just straight ahead rock. They did sing 2 new songs from a newly released 3-CD set at Walmart which sounded exactly like 80's era Foreigner, but otherwise they stuck to the hits and rocked out!

Twilight Fans Have Reason to Celebrate

Thursday, October 29, 2009

By Claire

The original Twilight movie will be re-released in theatres on November 19, for one day, the day before the sequel New Moon comes out. Back to back Twilight viewings could be pretty cool. Side point, but back in the day I once watched Lethal Weapon 1 and 2 on video and then on the same day went to go see Lethal Weapon 3. Lots of fun, but I digress. Are you a Twilight fan?

Are You Watching the World Series?

Thursday, October 29, 2009

By Claire

Apparently, lots of people are. Last night's game 1 ratings between the Phillies and the Yankees were way up over last year. Fun fact: last night Lorne Michaels and Alec Baldwin were sitting in the front row right behind home plate. Tonight -- Andy Samberg is in the front row behind home plate.

Top Chef Recap (Spoiler Alert)

Thursday, October 29, 2009

By Claire

Ok, so there is a similar phenomenon to Project Runway happening on Top Chef. Robin has been in the bottom several times (much like Christopher on Project Runway) and people who have rarely been in the bottom, such as Mike I are getting eliminated. Very strange. Any thoughts as to why?

NBC Cancels Trauma

Thursday, October 29, 2009

By Bender

Just heard that NBC cancelled the new show Trauma. I'm a couple episodes behind, but I liked the show. The episodes that I saw were pretty intense. One of main characters was on the show Damages (on F/X). I think F/X should pick up the show and make it even more intense and disturbing...

Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone

Thursday, October 29, 2009

By Bender

Just saw the anime movie Evangelion last night. The animation was great and the story line was very cool. The actual dialogue was a bit silly and repetitive. I haven't seen much anime so I'm not sure if that's the way anime is - my guess is that the dialogue is secondary to the graphics and plot - kind of like an action movie. It was fun to watch even though it moved slowly in a few parts.

Michael Jackson's This Is It

Wednesday, October 28, 2009

By Bender

Michael Jackson's This Is It is released today in theatres as well as a companion CD. I just received the CD from Amazon today and it's basically a greatest hits CD with one new song, "This Is It" in 2 versions plus an extra CD with 3 demo tracks of previous hits and a spoken word poem, entitled "Planet Earth". The CDs are packaged nicely and includes an accompanying booklet with scenes from the movie, but nothing really new on it. The coolest part are the demo tracks - you get to hear the origins of songs like Beat It and Wanna Be Startin' Something.

I'll be seeing the movie this week and will post my review soon!

Project Runway Recap

Saturday, October 24, 2009

By Claire

Ok, so I know I said this last week but now it's just getting insane. Christopher, who I do like, was in the bottom again and didn't get voted out. Something just doesn't make sense. And Irina continues to dominate. Milla Jovovich as guest judge was really fun and cool - seems like she'd be a lot of fun to hang out with.

Top Chef Recap (Spoiler Alert)

Thursday, October 22, 2009

By Claire

Shocking episode last night. I totally thought the team that lost would have won restaurant wars. Wild that every one's dishes fell apart. Kevin's domination came to a halt. Hopefully just a brief pause in his otherwise solid execution. And the other team's almost every dish rocked. Just when you thought the sibling rivalry couldn't get anymore intense, it does.

Nip/Tuck Last Night

Thursday, October 22, 2009

By Bender

Great episode last night - love the bickering between Liz and Kimber - hysterical! Add to that another wild patient storyline, craziness with Christian, and a hint of someone from Teddy's past that will undoubtedly be revealed in the weeks to come and you have yourself a Nip/Tuck Par-tay!

Great show last night - lots of storylines. Martha Plimpton was great as opposing counsel. Lots of funny jabs back and forth as they were trying to settle the case. Josh Charles is fantastic as Will, the tough head partner who doesn't trust his other partner, Christine Baranski.

We Live In Public The Movie

Tuesday, October 20, 2009

By Bender

Just saw the movie "We Live in Public" - it's a totally fascinating account of an early internet entrepeneur/visionary/mad genius. It's really incredible to see his predictions about the future of computing and the internet come true before the internet broke through to the mainstream. It's truly mind boggling (and disturbing) to watch his social experiments fusing people, technology and the internet come to life and later descend into a downward spiral. Run to this movie!

Amazing Race Recap

Monday, October 19, 2009

By Claire

Is it me or is this the mildest Fast Forward that they have had in a while? Usually, it's something really out there and challenging that both team members have to do and this time only one of them had to do it and he was super excited. Interesting to see the change in the game. As always, the scenery of all of the places they are visiting is just amazing and it is awesome to learn about each destination.

Law Abiding Citizen

Monday, October 19, 2009

By Bender

Just saw Law Abiding Citizen with Jamie Foxx and Gerard Butler. I thought it was a very good suspense/thriller. You have to suspend some belief but the movie is quick paced and keeps you on the edge of your seat. There are some intense scenes that will have you squirming (or screaming).

Project Runway Recap

Friday, October 16, 2009

By Claire

Cool that Bob Mackie and Christina Aguilera were on the show and judges. The reactions of some of the designers to being in front of Bob Mackie were awesome. Here's the week's puzzler: how is it that Christopher has been in the bottom 3 - 3 weeks in a row and doesn't get voted off? I like him but from the competition standpoint - it doesn't make sense.

Nip/Tuck WTF!

Friday, October 16, 2009

By Bender

I'm virtually speechless about the premiere of Nip/Tuck's new season. They kicked up the show another notch while maintaining outrageous story lines, crazy surgeries, etc. BUT, the greatest part of the episode (mild spoiler) has to be Matt deciding he wants to be a mime and the scene on the beach!

Long live Nip/Tuck!

Bruce Hornsby and the Noisemakers' Levitate CD

Wednesday, October 07, 2009

By Bender

Been listening to Bruce Hornsby's latest CD Levitate and I really like it. It's hard to describe - it's got a jazz/rock/world/revival feel to it. VERY different from his hit songs like "The Way It Is", "Mandolin Rain", etc. It has flavors of Dave Matthews, Rod Stewart, Tom Petty, Steely Dan and The Beatles. Some songs sound very experimental and a little out there, but as a whole it works.

House Rocks the House

Wednesday, October 07, 2009

By Bender

House is a great show and while it hit a few bumps in past seasons, the new season is off to a great start. The pilot episode was genius! The recent episode with House taking on cooking was hysterical. If you don't watch the show (and you know who you are) you must pick this up immediately!

The Good Wife Recap

Wednesday, October 07, 2009

By Claire

Very interesting case this week. I like the way they weave in Julianna Margulies' old friends and how they have been totally unsupportive since the scandal with her husband broke. The other junior associate Cary is definitely not the greatest colleague - very sneaky. Josh Charles and Christine Baranski are a delight. The flashbacks of the seemingly perfect, happy couple pre-scandal are very interesting- showing that things are not always what they seem.

Tuesday, October 06, 2009

Just saw Zombieland - great, fun flick! The whole cast is perfect and they had a great mix of comedy and gore. Yes, there was A LOT of gore and it was over the top. The movie had some great scenes and one-liners (including a great cameo I won't spoil) as well as some funny 80s/90s references. Woody Harrelson rocks!

Did you catch Curb Your Enthusiasm last night with the cast of Seinfeld?
