The Grammys air tonight a 8 ET/ 7 CT on CBS. If you are interested, there is a red carpet show on E starting at 6ET/5CT with interviews of musicians and bands as they arrive. Are you going to watch?
Just saw that movie last night. Interesting - as you might have guessed from the title - lots of music. Lots of funny cameos including Andy Samberg and Seth Myers of SNL. In addition to Michael Cera and Kat Dennings, the cast included a lot of actors from well known tv shows and movies: Alexis Dziena who played E's girlfriend on Entourage, Zachary Booth who plays Glenn Close's son on Damages, Jay Baruchel from Tropic Thunder, Undeclared and Almost Famous, to name a few. Have you seen it?
Avatar is no. 1 for the 7th week in a row. With over $2 billion in worldwide box office it has surpassed he previous record of top grossing movie set by Titanic. It is less than $7 million away from besting the domestic box office record set by Titanic as well. Wow.
Of the new releases, Edge of Darkness came in 2nd with a little over $17 million and When in Rome came in 3rd with a little over $12 million. For all the weekend movie results, click here.
It has just been announced that Eminem, Lil Wayne, Drake and Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker will perform together this Sunday night at the Grammy Awards. Performances Sunday night will also include Green Day performing alongside the cast of their American Idiot musical, a tribute to guitarist Les Paul featuring Jeff Beck and Imelda May, Elton John, Roberta Flack and Jennifer Nettles, Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Pink, Dave Matthews Band, Bon Jovi and the Black Eyed Peas. The Special 3-D Tribute to Michael Jackson will feature Celine Dion, Usher and Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson and Smokey Robinson. Sounds like an awesome line-up.
Two films have just been picked up at the Sundance film festival, which is currently taking place through Sunday. Twelve, Joel Schumacher's film about drug-dealing among privileged Manhattan teens stars Chace Crawford, Emma Roberts, Ellen Barkin, Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson and Rory Culkin. Sounds like an intriguing film with a great cast and director. Hesher, the other film just picked up, is produced by Natalie Portman and stars Joseph Gordon-Leavitt who was just nominated for a Golden Globe for his role in (500) Days of Summer. For more details, on the films, click here.
For all of you huge fans of the David Spade movie, Joe Dirt, there is some excellent news coming your way. An animated version of the film is being developed for TBS with David Spade, Sony Pictures Television and Happy Madison Productions (Adam Sandler's company) collaborating. Check it out.

If you are in London and a fan of ABBA you might want to check this out. A new exhibition, ABBAWORLD, is opening on Wednesday, described by Msnbc as "a new museum-cum-theme park in London with enough music, mementos and memory-lane appeal to satisfy even the most fervent ABBA fan." Are you in London or heading there anytime soon to check it out?
Did you catch the first episode of the new season of Damages last night? It was incredible. Chock full of story lines, twists and turns, and an unbelievable spoiler which I will not give away if you haven't seen it yet. Patty is always up to no good, and the new cast of characters including Martin Short as a lawyer, Lily Tomlin as the wife of a scandal ridden guy, and Campbell Scott as her son are all very substantive characters.
The Dave Matthews Band will be doing a huge 4 month tour of the U.S. this summer. Awesome. Click here for all of the tour details.

Beyond this upcoming season, Survivor has been renewed for its 21st and 22d seasons and the Amazing Race for its 17th season. If you are into reality shows, they are both lots of fun to watch between the people dynamics and seeing many parts of the world, especially on the Amazing Race. Do you watch either or both shows?
Survivor will be returning this season February 11 and the Amazing Race the following Sunday, February 14.
HIMYM has been renewed for a 6th season. Yeah! Very exciting news. As I have mentioned a few (hundred) times, such a great show.
Check this out!
Sheila E as Prince
Just saw Legion. First half was very good - it got off to a promising start, but then the second half spiraled into meh-ville. Rental!
The third season of the incredible tv show Damages starts Monday night on FX. The previews for the new season look wild as always. Lots of new stars including Martin Short, Lily Tomlin and Campbell Scott have joined the show.
I mentioned a couple of months ago the amazing show Million Dollar Quartet about Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash and Carl Perkins, which I was so happy to see. Well, after 15 months in Chicago, where the run keeps getting extended, it is heading to Broadway. The show will play in the Nederlander Theatre, where one of my other favorites, Rent, played for many years. Previews start in March and opening night is scheduled for April 11.
For the first time, the New Orleans Saints are heading to the Super Bowl, February 7. Fans on the streets of New Orleans were going wild. They will be facing the Indianapolis Colts. Should be quite a game!
Just saw Gamer with Gerard Butler. Totally mindless entertainment and I loved it. Lots of violence and gore - beware!
For the 6th week in a row, Avatar is no. 1 at the weekend box office pulling in an estimated $36 Million. That brings its domestic total to over $550 Million and its worldwide total to over $1.8 Billion. It is $6 Million away from taking over the no. 1 spot for all time top worldwide grossing movie from Titanic and $48 million from besting it as top domestic grossing film. Pretty unbelievable, especially considering they are both James Cameron films.
For new releases, Legion did well coming at no. 2 with over $18 Million, The Tooth Fairy came in at no. 4 with over $14 million, and Extraordinary Measures came in at no. 7 with an estimated $7 million.
In its second week out, The Book of Eli did well coming in at no. 3 with an estimated $17 million. For all the weekend movie totals, click here.
The Sundance Film Festival is currently taking place in Park City, UT: it started on Thursday and goes through next Sunday. There are always some interesting films that debut at Sundance and the buzz can be quite influential. For everything going on at Sundance, click here.
Sam Page, of Mad Men, will guest star on Desperate Housewives on several episodes starting in late February. Check it out.
That George Clooney's ex wife, Talia Balsam, is currently married to John Slattery (of Mad Men, Desperate Housewives and many other shows)? They even played a married couple on Mad Men, but are no longer together on the show.
For the first time, Ross Mathews will be joining Giuliana Rancic on the E channel as stars arrive at the SAG (Screen Actors Guild) Awards red carpet. If you like this sort of thing, then tune in because he is always a laugh a minute. The SAG awards will follow on TBS or TNT.
Check out the latest song from The Purple One!

Quincy Jones and Lionel Richie are organizing a re-recording of 1985's We are the World to be recorded and taped on Feb. 1, the night after the Grammys. All proceeds will go to Haiti. Awesome. Check it out.
Usher, Celine Dion, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson and Smokey Robinson will perform alongside a 3-D clip of Michael Jackson. CBS and Target have partnered to provide millions of free 3-D GRAMMY Glasses to be available from 1/24/10 through 1/31/10.
Just saw Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. I thought it was really good. Great, trippy movie. Sad that Heath Ledger was not able to complete its filming, however, friends like Johnny Depp and Jude Law filled in for his role. Since the film is so over the top the change of "characters" worked fairly seamlessly.
Feeling nostalgic for pre-cell phone / pre-internet times? Take a stroll down memory lane and check out these 80s stars in all their glory and what they are up to now. Any favorites stand out?

Just caught up on the 2 night, 4 hour premiere of 24. It was non-stop edge of your seat fun as always. So many storylines, so much action, so many new and old characters with backstories. In a word, awesome. Side point (and this doesn't give anything away) how totally cute is Jack's granddaughter? So incredibly adorable!
Check out this beautiful tribute to Martin Luther King Jr. in honor of Martin Luther King day.
Behind the Music, which was relaunched last year, is heading to VH1 Classic with a remastered series. The show will feature legendary bands that were already profiled on the show back in the day and will pick up where the former shows left off. Awesome. Musicians/Groups on the new show being featured include: John Lennon, Metallica, Genesis, Mötley Crüe, Def Leppard and Judas Priest. Such Gen X classics. The show will premiere on Feb. 6th. For more info, click here.
Larry King is hosting a 2 hour special tonight on CNN at 7 CST with lots of celebrities to let people know how they can help with the devastation in Haiti. Here are some of the celebrities who will be participating: Alyssa Milano, Ashley Judd, Ben Stiller, Benicio Del Toro, Charles Barkley, Christian Slater, Colin Powell, Danny Glover, David Spade, Jeff Probst, Joel and Benji Madden, Kobe Bryant, Mick Jagger, Molly Sims, Nicole Richie, Pete Wentz, Pras Michel, Queen Rania, Ringo Starr, Russell Simmons, Ryan Seacrest, Sarah Ferguson, Scarlett Johansson, Seal, Sean Combs, Snoop Dogg, Susan Sarandon, Tea Leoni, Will.i.Am. For more information on the special, click here.
Julianna Margulies won the Golden Globe for her role as Alicia Florek in The Good Wife. She does such an excellent portrayal of a complex woman. Very cool she was recognized.
Other big winners include Mo'Nique (who spoke beautifully), Meryl Streep, Sandra Bullock, John Lithgow, Michael C. Hall, Drew Barrymore, Robert Downey Jr., Mad Men, Glee, The Hangover, Avatar, James Cameron and Martin Scorsese receiving the Cecil B DeMille award. Click here for the full list of winners.
Ricky Gervais was overall pretty funny. Some of his bits introducing presenters, especially Mel Gibson, were quite hilarious.
It was also really nice that throughout the night there were many reminders about the devastation in Haiti and the importance of helping out, including most of the attendees wearing special ribbons.
We mentioned a few weeks ago that Prince was at a Vikings game. Today, the rock legend is at the playoff game against the Dallas Cowboys and Favre is currently leading the Vikings to a 27 to 3 score over Dallas in the 4th quarter. Very cool that Prince is such a fan.
Tonight the Golden Globes will be airing on NBC starting at 7 CST. If you are into the red carpet stuff, on E they are doing a countdown starting at 4 CST and then from 5:00 to 7:00 a red carpet special interviewing celebrities as they arrive with Ryan Seacrest and Giuliana Rancic. NBC will also have a red carpet special from 6 to 7 CST. I know to some it's very silly, but I have so much fun with this stuff. Total guilty pleasure. Not to worry 24 devotees, I will have 24 on the DVR to watch later.
Jack is back! Let the 8th season begin! The 4 hour season premiere of 24 starts tonight on Fox with the first 2 hours and continues tomorrow night with another 2 hours. Are you going to watch?
For the 5th week in a row, Avatar is the no. 1 movie in America, making over an estimated $40 million. That brings its worldwide total to over an estimated $1,465,000,000 - yes that is very close to $1.5 billion. Wild. Avatar director James Cameron even made a cameo in the SNL Digital Short last night. Sigourney Weaver, one of the stars of Avatar, hosted SNL.
New release The Book of Eli, starring Denzel Washington, did very well at no. 2 making over an estimated $31 million.
It has been announced that season 4 of Friday Night Lights will be back on NBC April 30! Yeah! Such a great show that has been airing on DirecTV but not for viewers who don't have it. Are you a fan?
Just saw Daybreakers. It was a good movie, not great. Let's just say, "it was entertaining." The movie had some good lines, but resorted to a lot of "cheap" scares that just happened to be effective almost every time even when you knew they were coming. It's not going to be a "classic" vampire or horror film, but it was good escapism.
That Famous Amos Cookies were started in 1975 by a guy, Wally Amos, who was a talent agent at William Morris. Just heard that on Jeopardy. So random. According to the Wikipedia page, he and the cookies also appeared in a 1981 episode of the tv show, Taxi:
"Brand familiarity with Famous Amos cookies received a boost when the cookies, and their maker, were prominently featured in an episode of the television sitcom Taxi (season 3, episode #55, February 5, 1981). In the episode, entitled "Latka's Cookies," Sunshine Cab Company mechanic Latka Gravas strives to become a famous cookie mogul like his idol, Famous Amos. Latka's cookies, however, contain a narcotic ingredient that makes the nearly inedible cookies (based on his grandmother's secret recipe) addictive. Cookie maker Wally Amos appears to Latka in a vision. It was, at the time, an unparalleled instance of product placement for a prime-time television show."

Blink-182 is headed back into the studio to record their first album since 2003. They will have cameras along with them for the album sessions, to record the film, "Blinkumentary". Awesome that new Blink music is coming our way and the documentary is a nice added extra.
ABC has officially picked up Matthew Perry's pilot, Mr. Sunshine, a comedy in which Perry stars " as the manager of an aging San Diego stadium who realizes on his 40th birthday that he can no longer get by on just his charming, noncommittal ways". Sounds like a great role for him. Though I can never get enough of him as Chandler from Friends, it will be cool to see him play a new character.
In other Friend's news, Courtney Cox's show, Cougar Town, has been renewed for another season.
In a Big Brother meets the Bachelor twist, former contestants of the Bachelor are set to live in a house, compete for challenges and get eliminated at the end of each episode. The show will be called Bachelor Pad. With all of the history of some of the contestants, should make for lots of drama. Check it out. Are you going to watch?
So totally funny. They really outdid themselves for the 100th episode - Rachel Bilson, Tim Gunn and Stacy Kiebler all guest starred. Rachel was great as a grad student dating Ted who tries to keep men away from her roommate (who we find out Ted ends up marrying) because guys always fall for her. There was no introduction of the roommate but it was nice to be one step closer to meeting "the Mother" of HIMYM. Neil Patrick Harris as Barney was hilarious contemplating giving up suits for a woman. He was outstanding in his musical number which was fun, catchy and clever all at once. Did you see it?

With the last episodes of the series being aired the show is flying off the rails. Crazy back story about Sean and Christian. Looks like the series is going to literally crash and burn. I'm talking a Thelma & Louise ending here. Who knows what's going to happen!
Just saw this kids movie on DVD last night with my kids. While it was totally silly and ridiculous I did like it. James Spader, Jon Cryer, Leslie Mann and William H. Macy all had roles. James Spader's character was "Mr. Black" and his kids were "Cole Black" and "Helvetica Black" (whose nick name was "Hell") - too funny!
I really want to see this - looks wild. Has any one seen it? Thoughts?
Well, looks like Leno will be coming back to his old late night time slot. I personally like Conan a lot and think he's hysterical, but he wasn't/isn't right for the late night slot - his humor is too niche. Anyway, I think Leno will be back on top and Conan will go on to better things, but this is one major screw up by NBC - both the late decisions and the way the aftermath is being handled.
Just caught up on the new episode of The Good Wife from this week. Another stellar one. Without trying, Alicia gets herself in some wacky situations. She somehow, without any of her own doing, ends up as a secret weapon in a divorce case at the request of the wife, and the husband (not exactly a friend of her family) retaliates in a very interesting way. There was also an intriguing case about a scandalous talk show host, free speech and the interesting role politics can play in a trial. Great show as always.
For the 4th week in a row, Avatar was the No. 1 movie pulling in more than $48 million over the weekend. Its worldwide total is now over $1.3 billion. Of the new releases, Daybreakers did best coming in at no. 4 with $15 million, Leap Year came in at no. 6 with just over $9 million and Youth in Revolt came in at no. 9 with $7 million. For the full weekend box office results, click here.
Remember following the funny antics of Ricky (now Rick) Schroder, Alfonso Ribeiro and Jason Bateman on Silver Spoons in the 80s? Check this out.
Fun Fact #1: Rick Schroder's wife appeared as a contestant on the Bravo reality show, Top Design.
Fun Fact #2: Jason Bateman is married to Paul Anka's daughter.
Fun Fact #3: Gary Coleman, Bruce Jenner, Mr. T and Matthew Perry appeared as guest stars on Silver Spoons.
The Joel McHale hosted show is so wrong it's right. Hilarious commentary and, dare I say, insight on wacky tv moments from the week. While I have seen a little of it before, I just happened across it on the tv and am LMAO. Do you tune in to the show?
So amazing. HIMYM's 100th episode will be airing on Monday. I hope this means it will be on all the time soon, like Friends and Two and a Half Men (not to sound too dorky). The cast got together to celebrate and look to be as much fun together in reality as they are together on their show. Check this out.
TMZ is reporting that the MJ death investigation is complete and it will result in criminal charges against Dr. Murray in the weeks ahead. Not sure what to think about this anymore. Something seems off (always did IMHO) - from MJ's death to the whole investigation. I'm not convinced that the ambulance photo of MJ was real and/or current. I'm just saying...
Not sure what to make of this. Who thought taking Leno off the Tonight Show at its peak was a good idea in the first place? Leno's new show isn't doing well. Tonight Show audiences haven't connected with Conan. Yeesh. While I like Conan a lot, he wasn't the right fit for the Tonight Show. Bring Leno back and give Conan his show back or a new show. Press the "Redo" button already - it's ok even big, overpaid TV executives are human and make mistakes!
Claire reminded me about this movie - it looks awesome!

Dave Matthews Band and Green Day have been announced as performers at the Grammys live show on CBS, January 31. So cool - should be a great show. Other artists performing as well include Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, the Black Eyed Peas, Maxwell and Lady Antebellum.
So exciting - the date has been set! "American Idiot", the Green Day musical, which had a very successful run at the Berkley Rep in California, is starting preview performances in NYC on Broadway March 24 with the official opening night April 20.
Can you believe it? I can't wait to see what Christian, Sean, Kimber and Matt have in store for the final season. The show is so wild to begin with I can only imagine what the final episodes will bring. Are you going to tune in?

A clip of "Another Day" written and produced by Lenny Kravitz for Michael Jackson was online for a short time, but has since been pulled by Sony.

Just saw this completely original film that makes you laugh and think and reflect (not to sound too dorky). It's not a typical romantic comedy, in fact, as the narrator tells you at the very beginning, it's not meant to be a love story (even though in some ways it is). Interestingly, right after I watched it, I came across the attached piece of news, Alexa Ray Joel, daughter of Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley, is going to speak out about heartbreak related depression due to recent events in her life, a topic the movie touches upon.
Check out this list of movies coming out this year. Among them, Shutter Island, the thriller directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Leonard DiCaprio -- it was actually supposed to be released last October. Howl, a docudrama about poet Allen Ginsberg’s obscenity trial following publication of his famous poem. James Franco plays Ginsberg and the supporting case includes Jon Hamm and David Straithairn. Clint Eastwood's Hereafter starring Matt Damon and Bryce Dallas Howard. Robert Redford's The Conspirator about the only woman charged with conspiracy in the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. Robin Wright stars along with Kevin Kline, Justin Long and Tom Wilkinson.
Avatar was the number 1 movie at he box office this weekend for the 3rd weekend in a row. It has grossed over $350 million domestically so far and over $1 billion worldwide. Check it out.
