24

Friday, May 28, 2010

By Claire

What did you think of the 2 hour series finale of 24? I thought it was great. It was non-stop action, twists and turns (Chloe and Jack, the president!!!) that had you glued to the tv. The show declined in viewership and has gotten some negative reviews but looking at it just as far as entertainment value goes, it has been lots of fun. And there is still that hope of a movie.

Baseball, Basketball, Hockey oh My...

Friday, May 28, 2010

By Claire

It's quite the time of year for sports fans. To name just a few sporting events: Baseball (MLB)season, Basketball (NBA) and Hockey (NHL) playoffs, French Open time for Tennis, Indy 500 on Sunday for race car fans, the World Cup is about to begin for soccer fans. And so much more. Do you have a favorite sports or event to watch?

How I Met Your Mother

By Claire

Did anyone see the season finale? I thought it was really great. Funny (Barney in all his get-ups), touching (Robin becoming romantic), insightful - people (Lily) seeing what she wants to see. Not to be too dorky, but I thought it was extra awesome.

Lost and Fringe Finales

Tuesday, May 25, 2010

By Bender

Well, now that the Lost and Fringe finales have aired where do we go from here? What do we do now!?!? Just a few thoughts...

Lost: Glad to have the closure. I think the show ended with a good mix of answers while leaving room for interpretation. I know the blogs are going crazy - did they all die in the original crash? Was this all a dream of Jacks? Were they in hell? etc. etc.

Personally, I think the flash sideways were Jack's hopes, dreams, and/or fears and are not to be taken literally. I think Jack died while saving the island and, in doing so, saved everyone else and found salvation for himself. I think he was in a "way stattion" between death and the afterlife and once his "mission" was complete he was able to cross over to the other side. Those are my 2 cents and I'm at peace with it.

Fringe: Great Season Ending! I loved this show from the pilot. The other night things ended with a great cliffhanger (although you could see it coming) and some great scenes with Leonard Nimoy!

Conan O'Brien at the Chicago Theatre

Wednesday, May 19, 2010

By Claire

Just came back from seeing Conan O'Brien's first of two shows in Chicago. It was hi-freakin-larious! He had so many funny bits both familiar and new and used lots of interesting technology including some pre-made really humorous videos. Like in every other city, he had special guest stars unique to Chicago come visit -- Brian Urlacher of the Chicago Bears and actor John C. Reilly. Very cool.

A nice bonus -- opening act Reggie Watts was super funny!

A-ha Farewell Tour

Sunday, May 16, 2010

By Bender

Just saw A-ha last week in Chicago. They are playing only a handful of dates in the U.S. for their farewell tour. Their smash "Take On Me" and cool cartoon/reality video made them stars in the 80s. In the States, however, they remained only a 2-3 hit wonder along with "The Sun Always Shines on TV" and the theme to James Bond film, "The Living Daylights". Nonetheless, the show was fun - they had a big video screen behind the band that played some cool footage - art, videos, stuff from their early days, etc. Long live the 80s!

Iron Man 2

Tuesday, May 11, 2010

By Bender

Just saw Iron Man 2 - the effects were amazing and it was definitely entertaining, but it lacked something I can't put my finger on...perhaps a story? Hhhmmm, I know it's a superhero movie, but something wasn't 100% right about this. Nonetheless, it was great eye candy.

Kick-Ass Movie Should Get Its Ass Kicked

Wednesday, May 05, 2010

By Bender

Just saw Kick-Ass. Yes, I know what you're thinking - shouldn't the title be a warning about the movie itself? True, but from the trailer it seemed like a spoof of superhero movies which could have been funny. Instead, this movie was a complete mess of 10 different movies and genres in one. It's ultimately a Quentin Tarantino wannabe and it fails miserably. The movie felt like it would never end. It doesn't even deserve the energy I'm exerting to write these comments. 'Nuff Said!
