Just saw The Karate Kid this weekend. As soon as I heard they were remaking it I groaned and didn't think it would be that good. However, it turned out to be VERY good. Dare I say it comes close to the excitement of the original? Will Smith's son Jaden Smith was amazing and Jackie Chan as the "Mr. Miyagi character" was very, very good - no over acting and silliness - he played it really well. I got chills in the final few scenes. Great movie!
The Motown Historical Museum in Detroit, Michigan opened a Jackson 5 exhibit on Friday, in commemoration of the one year anniversary of Michael Jackson's passing. The exhibit celebrates the life of Jackson as well as the Jackson 5's contributions to Motown.
The new season of Entourage premieres tonight on HBO. It has been getting good buzz and should be another great season for Ari, Vince, E, Turtle and Drama -- all amazing characters. Are you going to tune in?
Just saw the movie Cyrus with John C. Reilly, Marisa Tomei and Jonah Hill. Fascinating movie. Humorous, sad and quite touching with great performances by all. If you like studying people like I do- this movie gives lots of interesting personalities to analyze.
Last night I attended the Piven Theatre Workshop Benefit hosted by Jeremy Piven and Billy Dec in Chicago. Jeremy's mother and late father founded the theatre in Evanston, IL and a lot of well known actors have studied there. It offers underserved scholarships to students to the acting school as well as helping the disabled through PEEP, Piven Empowerment through Enrichment Program.
It was a cool night. Rockit Bar & Grill, one of Dec's clubs, was where it all happened and lots of amazing items were auctioned off including a walk-on role on Entourage, a visit to the Entourage set, attending a Matt Damon movie premiere, a movie night with Harold Ramis in your home fully catered, and a drumming lesson from former Smashing Pumpkins drummer Matt Walker. Dec was tweeting throughout the night so it was funny to read his take on things as it was happening. White Sox General Manager Kenny Williams and Cubs' Derek Lee and Randy Wells came by later after the Cubs-Sox game. The benefit appeared to be a success and lots of fun was had by all.
In its second weekend in release, Toy Story 3 was no. 1 with $59 Million. In just a week and a half, it has made over $226 million domestically. Grown Ups did very well at no. 2 with over $40 million. Knight & Day came in at no. 3 with over $20 million for the weekend and $27 million since it opened on Wednesday. In its second week out, Cyrus had over $17, 000 per screen average in just 17 theaters. For all the movie news, click here.

Went to see the reading of Da Bears Movie Dat Wasn't last night based on the SNL skit. It was hilarious. The cast included Joe Mantegna, George Wendt, Horatio Sanz, Robert Smigel, Bob Odenkirk, David Koechner (who played many characters and was especially fantastic). Special appearances by Mike Ditka, Ryan Dempster and Keith Van Horn. Richard Roeper narrated. It was non-stop laughing. The funniest thing was them laughing about Ditka's quirks and funny moments on the field with him right there. Also great were Smigel's illustrations which were shown along with some of the very comical moments in the script.
Wow. In its first weekend in release, Toy Story 3 came in at no. 1 with $109 million. The Karate Kid is still holding strong at no. 2 with over$106 million in 2 weekends out. In other new releases, Jonah Hex came in at no. 8 with over $5 million. Cyrus did well with $45,000 per theater in just 4 theaters.
Did you hear about this? A 32 year old from PA got a new record 47 strikes in a row. Unbelievable. The only reason the streak ended was because he stopped bowling.
Chicago is going wild over the Blackhawks recent Stanley Cup win. The parade and rally were awesome - some estimated 2 million people showed up. The Cup, with members of the team, have hit bars and restaurants all around town and even made an appearance in some LA clubs after 4 of the team members appeared on Leno. In a really heartwarming story about the Hawks, check out how some children at Children's Memorial Hospital got a huge surprise.
I happen to love snow cones. Total summer favorite. Check out this article about snow cones, the related refreshment snoballs, and other new, similar type treats.

Just saw The A-Team this weekend. Despite bad reviews and being crushed at the box office by The Karate Kid, I thought it was a fun, mindless action movie - nothing wrong with that!
How genius is this? The Green Garmento is a reusable dry cleaning bag that can also be used as a duffel. Check it out!
Growing up, we knew him as Opie and Richie, today he his an award winning film director. Last night, he was honored at the Chicago International Film Festival for his amazing career. Vince Vaughn, Winona Ryder, Kevin James, Jennifer Connelly and Paul Bettany were among those in attendance. Check out these highlights of Howard's career.
Just saw the movie Pirate Radio which came out last year. Great film, based on a true story, about rock and roll, and fighting to get it on the radio in England in 1966-1967. Lots of excellent music, fun characters, and interesting behind the scenes politics.
Karate Kid came in at no. 1 at the box office with $56 million. The A-Team came in at no. 2 with $26 million. Shrek is still holding strong at no. 3 with over $15 million. For all the movie news, click here.
How cool is this? The new Intel Reader converts text to audio so one can listen to text including menus, tickets, and prescriptions on computers and Mp3 devices.
Are you going to see either The A Team or The Karate Kid this weekend? So far lots of people have and The Karate Kid has almost doubled the take of The A Team. Check this out.
Last night's Stanley Cup Final between the Chicago Blackhawks and the Philadelphia Flyers was the most watched game in 36 years. Wow. And ratings were up 46% from last year's final Stanley Cup game. Did you watch?
The Chicago Blackhawks just won the Stanley Cup for the first time in 49 years. Unbelievable! And what a finish to the game. Patrick Kane scored the game winner in overtime and it wasn't clear that it was a goal at first so it was wild. (Kane knew all along).
Lots of emotional Chicago fans including former Blackhawks players Jeremy Roenick (who was especially emotional on the NBC broadcast because he played in the Stanley Cup Finals with the Hawks in 1992 and didn't win) and Bobby Hull (who did win the Stanley Cup with the Hawks in 1961).
As you probably heard, last week Armando Galarraga was pitching a perfect game until the last out of the game, when an umpire made what turned out to be a wrong call, taking away his chance in history to be the 21st"perfect game". A lot of debate has ensued about the role of instant replay in baseball. Check out this interesting take on the discussion from Bruce Weber of the New York Times.

New Prince song debuted on his birthday on Minneapolis radio today called, "Hot Summer"!
It's in the vein of "Cream" and "Shake" - bouncy, upbeat and catchy.
I don't think the song is musically groundbreaking, but it's fun!

The MTV movie awards are live tonight with host Aziz Ansari from the show Parks and Recreation. There is usually lots of wackiness. Last year was the Eminem / Sacha Baron Cohen madness.
Big Sports night tonight: Game 5 of the NHL Stanley Cup Finals between the Chicago Blackhawks and Philadelphia Flyers AND game 2 of the NBA finals between the LA Lakers and Boston Celtics. Who do you want to win those series?
In other sports news, Rafael Nadal won the French Open today.
Shrek was no. 1 in its third weekend out in theatres with over $25 million. As for new releases, Get Him to the Greek, came in at no. 2 with over $17 million and Killers came in at no. 3 with over $16 million. Surprisingly, Splice came in at no. 8 with over $7 million. Sex and the City 2, in its second week in release, came in at no. 5, with over $73 million in 2 weeks at the domestic box office and $163 million worldwide.
Gen Xers Chris Rock, David Spade, Kevin James, and Adam Sandler are all sitting court side next to each other at the first game of the NBA finals tonight between the Lakers and the Celtics. They all just happen to be starring in the movie Grown Ups being released later this month. Coincidence? I'm thinking no.
